Silicone Render

Silicone render is a decorative finish applied to the exteriors of buildings, built up in multiple layers to achieve the final silicone topcoat.  This type of render not only enhances the appearance of a building but also provides excellent weather protection.

Unlike Monocouche render, which limits colour options due to its pre-mixed nature, silicone render comes in a base white colour and can be tinted to any RAL code, offering clients greater flexibility in colour choice.  With integrated colour pigments, silicone render eliminates the need for painting, providing a low-maintenance self-cleaning durable -finish , weather-resistant, and visually appealing finish for a variety of external brick and blockwork properties.

Self-cleaning

Nano technology in silicone render systems can have self-cleansing properties to make your silicone render finish really low maintenance.  The applied silicone finish has a high content of silicone Nano technology to maintain areas that are hard to reach or inaccessible after installation without effect to the breathability or finish.

Vapour Permeability & Breathability

Silicone render provides varying degrees of breathability, depending on the materials and manufacturers used.  For properties with cement-based mortar substrates built after the 1940s, we typically recommend acrylic, acrylic-silicone hybrid, or silicone-based renders, or partially breathable options. For lime-based mortar substrates, commonly found in properties built before the 1940s, we recommend highly breathable lime-based coat renders with silicone top coats.

These solutions align with the vapour permeability of the original substrate, allowing moisture to be absorbed and evaporated, thereby reducing the risk of damage caused by trapped moisture.  While traditional NHL (Natural Hydraulic Lime) render is a tested method, it requires frequent maintenance due to the UK’s demanding weather conditions.

If your property is not listed or if approval is granted by the conservation officer, a more cost-effective approach using modern lime base coats and silicone top coats can be used to match the original substrate’s breathability while minimising maintenance.

Silicone render is renowned for its superior durability, flexibility, impact resistance and sustainability compared to other rendering materials.  It offers enhanced flexibility, exceptional weather resistance, and a wide range of colour options.  Due to these qualities, it is a popular choice for coastal areas, commercial properties, high-traffic environments, and External Wall Insulation (EWI) systems, where the material's full potential can be realised.

Compared to other cladding options, silicone rendering is relatively affordable, making it an economical choice for many.  The average cost ranges between £70 and £140 per square metre.  However, the final price can vary depending on factors such as surface preparation, the number of coats required, and the type of render selected.
