Expert Monocouche Rendering Consultants & Contractors
Monocouche Render
Monocouche render is a decorative finish applied to the exteriors of buildings, providing both aesthetic enhancement and weather protection.
Derived from the French term meaning "single layer," Monocouche renders are modern solutions that can be applied either by hand or machine. With integrated colour pigments, these renders eliminate the need for subsequent painting, offering a low-maintenance, weather-resistant, durable, and visually appealing finish for a wide array of external brick and blockwork properties.
Application
With over 100 years of combined experience, our expertise, methods, and knowledge ensure the highest quality results. As approved contractors for leading rendering manufacturers, we can arrange comprehensive custom specifications, along with guarantees from both the manufacturer and our team.
Materials
There are more than 20 BBA-approved suppliers in the UK, each offering a variety of performance characteristics such as adhesion, texture, water repellence, flexibility, and breathability.
We are pleased to provide consultations and recommend the most suitable materials tailored to your specific project needs. Custom specifications and guarantees are offered by reputable rendering manufacturers, with samples available upon request.
Advantages of Monocouche Render
Monocouche render presents numerous benefits, including:
Aesthetic Appeal & Increased Market Value
Refreshing your home’s exterior with new rendering can significantly boost its curb appeal and overall market value. This cost-effective upgrade offers a range of textures, finishes, and colours, allowing for a personal touch that reflects your style.
Whether you desire a contemporary smooth finish or a more traditional look, the options are extensive. By selecting the appropriate render, you not only enhance visual appeal but also safeguard your home from the elements, helping to maintain its attractiveness for years to come.
Vapour Permeability & Breathability
This render provides partial to complete breathability, depending on the manufacturer and materials used.
For substrates made from cement-based mortars constructed after the 1940s, we typically recommend cement-based renders or partially breathable options. Conversely, for lime-based mortar substrates, usually built before the 1940s, we advocate the use of highly breathable lime renders, which align with the vapour permeability of the original substrate, allowing for moisture absorption and evaporation fluctuations.
NHL 3.5 (Natural Hydraulic Lime) render is a traditional and tested method; however, it involves a lengthy and costly process requiring further applications of lime wash coatings due to the UK's demanding weather conditions, necessitating maintenance every few years.
If the property is not listed or the conservation officer grants approval, a more cost-effective approach to achieving breathability and vapour permeability is available. We can utilise modern pre-coloured lime-based Monocouche renders that match the original substrate's breathability, minimizing maintenance compared to traditional NHL methods. Different aggregate sizes can be employed to achieve an open or closed surface, thus aligning with the original substrate’s water vapour permeability coefficient.
Durability
Monocouche render is noted for its exceptional resistance to cracking and impact, surpassing many traditional sand and cement rendering materials. Various base coats and topcoats can be used to strengthen substrates, incorporating reinforced mesh in base coats and stress areas for added durability.
All materials utilised are BBA approved and are tested for compressive strength, details of which can be found in any declaration of performance.
Energy Efficiency
This render provides an effective insulating barrier against moisture and harsh weather conditions. Its solid finish can also improve air and sound transfer on external walls, fostering a more comfortable internal environment.
Water & Algae Resistance
Cement and silicone-based Monocouche render is specifically designed to resist both water and algae. Protective treatments can be applied to enhance long-term water-repellent properties for external render and other masonry surfaces.
Cost
In comparison to other cladding options, the average cost of Monocouche rendering is relatively modest, making it a highly economical choice.
The price for Monocouche rendering ranges from approximately £40 to £110 per square metre. However, this cost is influenced by factors such as surface preparation requirements, the number of coats needed, and the specific type of render chosen.
Architectural Details
Ashlar cutting and Quoin stone details can be achieved in Monocouche render systems to give a Georgian style appearance or block work detail including around doorways, windows and corner details.
